It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of DOC on 21 September 2026, aged 87 years, at Lady Wigram Village in Christchurch.

DOC was a loved son, brother, husband, and father to Richard, Suzanne, Carl, and Erin. He was also a much-loved and proud Poppa DOC to his grandchildren.

DOC will be remembered by his many friends and by generations of New Zealanders who knew him as a newsreader, sports commentator, director, and producer throughout a distinguished career spanning almost four decades in New Zealand television. He was also widely respected for his longstanding involvement in Auckland’s sailing community and, in later years, became a familiar and warmly regarded presence in Blenheim.

A private cremation has been held. A celebration of DOC’s life will be held on Tuesday 6 October at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, 8/10 Tāmaki Drive, Auckland from 3pm
